'He’s been such a great horse' - Roxyfet records tenth chase success for Hammond
Monday: Hexham
Roxyfet has been a grand servant for his trainer Micky Hammond and he recorded his tenth British chase success in the opening 1m7½f handicap.
The 12-year-old has had more than 100 career starts over obstacles and used all his experience to overcome a tight passage under Emma Smith-Chaston and prevail by half a length from his stablemate Bandit D’Ainay.
The 7lb claimer, speaking to Sky Sports Racing said: "He’s great, that’s his tenth win now I think, possibly more. We normally like Sedgefield but we’ve been unlucky with the ground this year.
"We were unlucky last year because he does have a heart problem and he wasn’t able to run, but I was injured anyway so we were both off at the same time."
The conditional jockey was full of praise for both the owner Samuel Sutton and trainer Hammond for the faith they have kept in him.
"The owner, Sam, has been so patient with him," she added. "So has Micky and I’m just delighted that he could come here today and reward them for their loyalty. He’s been such a great horse."
Scintillating start
Clear White Light created a favourable impression on his first start over obstacles in the 2m novice hurdle. The Sandy Forster-trained six-year-old had shown promise in four attempts in bumpers and travelled sweetly before scooting clear on the run-in to run out a comfortable 14-length winner from Lou Trek.
Odds-on failure
Fonzerelli, a Listed winner over three miles, failed to justify odds-on favouritism down in trip when losing out to the Stuart Edmunds-trained Marsh Wren in the mares’ novice hurdle.
