'He's become the go-to man in the north for southern trainers' - praise for Callum Rodriguez after sixth winner in three days
Callum Rodriguez rode his sixth winner in just three days after Blue Zodiac brought up a double in the 5f novice for Michael Bell.
The jockey started the week with a winner at Thirsk before enjoying a Tuesday treble at Redcar. It got even better after Surprised did quite the opposite when obliging as 5-2 favourite in the 7½f fillies' novice with a dominant display for Ed Bethell. The two-year-old had taken a major step forward from her debut fourth over course and distance last month.
Blue Zodiac was back to her best having finished last of 16 in a Listed race at York. She had finished third at Glorious Goodwood and had to concede weight all round as the only previous winner in the line-up.
Rodriguez is now 3-8 when riding for Bell, who said: "Callum's a very good rider and we hope he can do it again for us on Thursday at Ayr with Dancingwithmyself. He's become the go-to man in the north for southern trainers and he's with Ed Bethell, so he's doing really well."
Bell said the Listed Bosra Sham Stakes would be next for Blue Zodiac. He added: "She won in a good time, which is a good sign. Things just didn't go right at all at York, but she's proved she's better than that. I think she's pretty smart."
Doyle delivers
Hollie Doyle rode her first winner at Beverley this season when striking on Tees George in the 1m½f handicap for Adrian Nicholls.
