Henderson makes right call – even at risk of upsetting Corky
Opening-day training honours go to old master and Ireland's rising star
Nicky Henderson may have enjoyed an afternoon the gods gave with Buveur D'Air and Altior but the second day of the meeting was due to start with a horrendous wigging from 74-year-old head man and pocket legend Corky Browne.
Runner-up in the Champion Hurdle for a scarce credible third time was the festival phenomenon that is My Tent Or Yours. Henderson's problem is that My Tent Or Yours is the apple of Corky's eye and he was already working on the dressing-down he was intending to give his employer first thing.
"I shall give him some ticking off at five in the morning," said Browne. "If he hadn't run Buveur D'Air, My Tent would have won at last. The horse is my best pal and has been from day one. He's ten now and people think we old-timers are past it but I can assure you we're not."
