If you're ever asked why the Challenger series was set up, remember the story of Kentford Heiress.

She perfectly summed up the thinking that led to programming six £50,000 finals on a late-season jumps card, which was aimed at those who don't always get the chance to compete for good money.

The nine-year-old carried the silks of owner/breeder Ian Bare, whose brown and white colours have been carried by a succession of 'Kentfords' since the 1970s, with Kentford Grebe giving him his best previous payday in the 2004 Newbury Mares' Hurdle Final – a series he helped found.
