Headgear makes the difference as Awsaaf returns to form under Curtis

The addition of blinkers made all the difference for Awsaaf, who snapped a 12-race losing run with success in the 5f handicap.

The Michael Wigham-trained five-year-old was 14lb lower than for his last success but showed signs of returning to that ability when hitting the front to score by a length and three-quarters under Ben Curtis.

The jockey said: "I think putting blinkers on made all the difference but he likes a bit of room to race in. When I pulled him out he had no excuses and it was pretty straightforward in the end. Once I committed to pulling him out I sent him for home and it turned out to be the right thing to do."
