'He won like an even-money shot' - 5-1 Thanos lands £40,000 final for Harry Charlton

Thanos revealed a liking for softer ground when landing the £40,000 Mile Series Final by three and three-quarter lengths under Lewis Edmunds.

The three‑year‑old, who qualified with a course‑and‑distance success in May, overcame the widest draw in stall 17 to record his third victory from his last four starts, having been denied a hat‑trick when finishing third of four at Newbury in July.

The Harry Charlton-trained gelding held a good position in the middle of the field before pushing towards the running rail and storming home after finding a gap.

Edmunds said he did not know whether his partner would like give underfoot, but said he travelled well enough and is one to show a decent turn of foot when races are run at an even tempo.

Charlton said: “He won well. I thought it was soft when he won at Lingfield in May although they reported it as good, and I think he actually handles it. 

"It looked like he had a good chance, but it’s hard to say in a race like that. You can’t make yourself even money, but he obviously won like an even-money shot.”

A Rose Adaay got off the mark at the 13th attempt for trainer Grace Harris and jockey Ben Ffrench Davis with victory in division two of the 7f handicap.
