Sunday: Musselburgh

Nicky Henderson struck with his sole runner of the weekend at the Scottish Festival Trials meeting when Impulsive One ran out an impressive winner of the bet365 Listed Scottish Triumph Hurdle.

The 13-8 joint-favourite sat off a breakneck pace set by market rival Inca Prince before looming large in the straight and sprinting clear on the Flat for an easy win.

Impulsive One was registering a third victory over hurdles as he put in a dominant performance under James Bowen.

Henderson said: "It was always the plan to target this race as the key to this horse is good ground. It was always a nice race for him and I think he's going the right way.

"He's not in the Triumph Hurdle and it may well be we keep him up our sleeve for the spring. Something at Kempton or Aintree would suit him as he looks a speed horse."

Winning spare ride

Conor O'Farrell made the most of a late call-up to replace Ryan Mania on Cedar Hill in the Scottish Champion Handicap Chase.

Mania stood himself down after a fall from Livelifetothemax, who sadly suffered a fatal injury in the third race, and missed out.

The 11-2 chance came clear at the last to beat Nero Rock with plenty in hand for Sandy Thomson.

O'Farrell had won the earlier race featuring Livelifetothemax on Kihavah for the Adrian Keatley yard.

Now you're Talking

Douglas Talking let his jumping do the talking to rout his three rivals on his fencing debut in the opening 2m4½f novice handicap chase.

The well-backed 9-4 chance (from 7-2 in the morning) looked every inch a chaser beforehand and confirmed that impression to continue a good weekend for trainer Lucinda Russell and jockey Derek Fox.
