Wyld Bill continued his upward trajectory with a big helping hand from 5lb claimer Jack Callan to notch a fourth win from his last seven starts.

Trained by Denis Quinn, the four-year-old tackled division one of the 1m2f handicap and proved the clear class in the field, drawing away to win by 13 lengths from the favourite Al Rufaa.

“He just had loads of energy today,” said Quinn. “He had bad luck last time, but we knew going out that he was very fresh and well.

“He was only a £1,000 purchase, so it was money well spent. We had a couple of small offers for him, but the owner doesn’t want to sell, he’s very fond of him."

It was Callan’s first time riding for the trainer, who said: “Jack gave him a great ride and did exactly as he was told. The horse just took off under him. He did as good a job as some professionals would do. Hopefully he’ll have reason to ride for us again.”

Big price

The Jim Boyle-trained Dandy Khan sprang a 40-1 upset in the 7f handicap, where the outsiders filled the first four places.

The three-year-old had been winless in 16 tries and was making her third start for Boyle since leaving Polly Gundry, having shown improvement when finishing fourth at the track on her previous run.

She finished two lengths clear of 22-1 chance Chloe’s Courage, with 16-1 Blue Empress back in third and 25-1 Neptune Legend in fourth.
