'He could be a Melbourne Cup horse' - big plans for Derby third Tennessee Stud as stamina proves the key

Tennessee Stud marked himself out as a stayer with a big future when narrowly denying his stablemate Emit in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay.
The three-year-old was sent off an 11-10 favourite following a number of placed efforts, including when finishing third in the Derby and Irish Derby. He was stepped up beyond a mile and a half for the first time and stamina proved to be no issue as he held on by a neck under Dylan Browne McMonagle.
Kevin Blake, representing trainer Joseph O'Brien, described the son of the late Wootton Bassett as a potential Melbourne Cup horse for next season.
"He's just a very good horse," said Blake. "He always has been. The Prix Niel wasn't really his thing last time and we felt he was ready to step up in trip. He's lovely and relaxed, especially for a colt. He always gave the impression that he had the temperament and the pedigree to become a stayer.
"He could be a Melbourne Cup horse. I was impressed with him today. I know he didn't win by far, but Dylan felt he was getting quite lonely in the final furlong, which is just the way the race panned out. Emit ran a smashing race, too. It was great to see him run so well – it's a fantastic result."
Into the sales ring
Ridari gave the Aga Khan Studs a big decision to make after wearing down Quddwah in the closing stages to land the Prix Daniel Wildenstein.
After showing a great attitude to score under Mickael Barzalona, Ridari's owners decided to let him pass through the ring at the Arqana sale on Saturday evening. Last year's winner, Ramadan, was sold for €1.5 million hours later.

“He always runs well here and he’s very similar to his dam Ridasiyna, who won the Opera," said trainer Mikel Delzangles. "They are both hot-blooded but with plenty of class. The French Derby was a bit too far and too soon for him, but I think he’ll stay a mile and a quarter next year now that he relaxes better."
Beckett strikes
Cape Orator overcame a wide draw under Hector Crouch to win the Criterium d'Automne, a valuable conditions race for two-year-olds, for trainer Ralph Beckett.
He stayed on powerfully inside the final furlong on his first attempt at a mile to finish a length and a quarter clear of the David Menuisier-trained Inis Mor.
"We thought he was the best horse in the race and he's showed it," said Izzi Beckett. "To win from the widest draw, we're delighted. He looks like he'll make up to be a lovely three-year-old, so we're super-excited. He's been very consistent all year and is a lovely horse to train."
Wathnan victory
After winning the Prix du Cadran, George Scott was denied a second Group success on the card when First Look beat Bay City Roller in the Prix Dollar.
The Andre Fabre-trained First Look, a Group 3 winner at Deauville in August, stayed on best under Barzalona to score for Wathnan Racing.
