A cloud has hung over Harry Whittington’s yard since the loss of Grade 1 winner Arzal, which is perhaps why victory for Afffaire D'Honneur was so warmly celebrated.

Last season was a breakthrough campaign for the trainer with 21 winners from 91 runners, crowned by Arzal’s Manifesto Novices’ Chase success at Aintree.

But then followed tragedy. Whittington said: “We were all gutted to lose Arzal and it put a real saddener on the yard for the whole of the summer. It hasn’t probably been until the last month that we’ve started buzzing about the new horses. We’ve got some fantastic new owners too and we’re ready to roll again.
