Connections of Mutakayyef were left to wonder what might have been after the fast improving gelding found his path checked by Postponed as he gained ground in the climax to yesterday's Juddmonte International.

The five-year-old was carried across the course as he chased the winner and ran out of room in the last 50 yards, which may have cost him a shot at second place, for which Andrea Atzeni received a two-day ban.

Trainer William Haggas said: "I am not saying he was unlucky but Paul [Hanagan] said he ran out of room. The winner came from the middle to the rail, which was unfortunate. I would like them all to have run in a straight line."
