Gundry gunning for Scottish National after Dawson City strikes

The Coral Scottish Grand National could be the long-term target for Dawson City, runaway winner of the £11,000 handicap chase, although his task was eased when Regal Flow, who threatened to make a game of it, unseated three out.

Without the cheekpieces he had worn for his last start, Dawson City recorded a 32-length victory under Wayne Hutchinson, much to the delight of trainer Polly Gundry.

She said: "It was easy to take the cheekpieces off him. They were Andrew Thornton's idea because he thought it'd stop the horse seeing others fall and would stop him from worrying. It was a good idea, but I never thought he was ungenuine.

"Wayne thought he had the other horse covered, but it's a shame he didn't stay up as it's nice to win fair and square. We might not have won though!

"It's been suggested the Scottish National could be the race and that'd be a very nice aim. He shouldn't go up too much for winning there. If he did go up above 130 it'd be a pain in the bum, but he would get in races like that."
