Richard Newland will consider some of the summer's biggest jump races after Leoncavallo made the perfect start for the trainer in the 2m handicap hurdle.

A smart juvenile when with ex-trainer John Ferguson, Leoncavallo beat Sceau Royal at Wetherby. However, this was just his second win since that 2015 success and his first for new connections, for which he sported first-time blinkers.

"Fair play to Value Racing Club as they were the ones that bought him and it's good to get him back as he lost his way a little bit," said Newland, who has an excellent track record revitalising other people's cast-offs.
