Grade 1 Royal Bond next for Three Stripe Life as Elliott's hot streak continues
Tuesday: Fairyhouse
A quickfire double with the classy pair Three Stripe Life and Queens Brook brought Gordon Elliott's tally to 16 winners in the last 13 days.
We didn't learn a great deal about Champion Bumper fourth Three Stripe Life in the 2m maiden hurdle as Davy Russell had only to nudge him out to justify odds of 2-13, but the fact Elliott was talking about the Royal Bond afterwards tells you all you need to know about the esteem in which he's held.
Elliott said: "You'd imagine the Royal Bond is where he'll be going. It's a case of job done today and he couldn't do any more than what he did.
"Davy [Russell] said he wasn't doing a whole lot in front and had he jumped the last instead of missing it, he would probably have sprinted up the straight."
Queens Brook was third in the 2020 Champion Bumper but didn't scale the heights expected of her last season after her maiden hurdle win at this venue. She didn't appear after November and that patient approach looks to be paying off judging by her emphatic success in the 2m4f hurdle.
She was getting 11lb from Ciel De Neige but he is rated 140, so for Queens Brook to put four lengths between them at the line was a fair effort.
Watch Three Stripe Life's impressive victory
Elliott was impressed too, saying: "She was getting a good weight allowance and we had to take our chance. It wasn't ideal running her back so soon after Wexford but the race kind of came our way.
"Jack [Kennedy] even said that she would come on again from it. She had a good blow. She's a big mare and takes a lot of getting fit. She's very honest, she wants to win and you can see that from her head carriage.
"We'll probably keep her over hurdles this year and it wouldn't shock me if she ended up in a nice handicap somewhere along the way."
Mullins in right place
Another trainer who is doing little wrong of late is Emmet Mullins.
Fresh from a treble at Cork on Sunday, Mullins won the opening 3m beginners' chase with Rightplacerightime in the increasingly familiar light blue silks of owner Paul Byrne.
Brian Hayes made every yard on the well-backed favourite and, although there were a few scares along the way, he was always in command up the straight.
Mullins said: "There was no messing there. I told Brian to buck out and go, and the way he galloped to the line means he obviously still had plenty in the tank."
Winning drifter
Petrol Head, who had a host of duck eggs next to his name, was a big drifter ahead of the 2m4f handicap hurdle, from 7-4 to 11-1, but it didn't stop him winning for Danny Mullins and Ronan McNally.
