For the second time in as many meetings at Yarmouth, trainer John Gosden unleashed a potential Classic candidate when Corelli cantered to victory in the 1m3½f novice stakes, earning quotes of 33-1 for the Investec Derby next month.

Last week Without Parole emerged as a contender for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas following a bloodless success, before being ruled out with a sore foot, and roll on a week and Gosden was at it again.

Having watched Corelli easily dismiss two rivals under Frankie Dettori, Gosden said: “He’s babyish still and this will bring him on a lot.
