Gordon Elliott's Battleoverdoyen makes all to score on chasing debut
Battleoverdoyen, who was sent off favourite for the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, made all to run out an easy winner on his chasing debut at Galway.
The six-year-old jumped particularly well under Keith Donoghue to score comfortably from Cap York and Glamorgan Duke.
Galvin, a stablemate of Battleoverdoyen, fell four fences from home.
The 2m6½f beginners' chase has been won previously by subsequent Cheltenham Festival winners Jessies Dream (2010) and Presenting Percy (2017).
Donoghue said: "He was brilliant. He jumped very well and has loads of scope. I was just doing enough in front the whole way and up the hill from the last he had a good blow.
"He was back in later than some of the others in the yard so there's going to be big improvement in him. It's good to get that out of the way."
Betfair reacted to Battleoverdoyen's victory by cutting him to 12-1 (from 20) for the RSA Insurance Novices' Chase and 20 (from 25) for the JLT Novices' Chase at the festival.
