'Good for racing' - Carroll supports Tapeta switch as Social City bags hat-trick
Tony Carroll described next year’s switch to Tapeta at Southwell as "good for racing" after Social City sealed a hat-trick across three-all-weather tracks in the 2m2½f handicap.
Carroll believes Arena Racing Company’s decision will boost the quality of racing at the Nottinghamshire venue, which will join the Arc-owned Newcastle and Wolverhampton in racing on Tapeta by the summer.
The Cieren Fallon-ridden Social City, a recent winner at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, continued the fantastic run of owner Wayne Clifford, who has enjoyed four winners from seven runners in the past ten days.
Carroll said: “The layout at Southwell is superb, it’s one of the best tracks in that regard. They have to move with the times and changing the surface to Tapeta will be good for racing as it will attract better horses.
“Social City is improving and has a big frame. He’s taken a bit of time to come to hand, but he’s nice and will probably run there again on Sunday.”

Apprentice Freddie Larson celebrated a winner on his first ride on the Fibresand earlier this month and took his record to 2-2 at the track when landing the feature 5f handicap on Zapper Cass.
It was a fifth course win for the seven-year-old and the second leg of a treble for Oakham trainer Mick Appleby, who also struck with the Alistair Rawlinson-ridden Liamba in the 7f handicap and the Middleham Park Racing-owned Motawaafeq in the mile handicap.
