The Listed Colin Parker Memorial Chase has a rich history of producing top-class chasers and Imperial Aura looked well worth his place on an honour roll featuring Many Clouds, Waiting Patiently and Lostintranslation after a faultless round of jumping under David Bass.

The experienced jockey was taken aback by the latest exhibition by the rapidly improving seven-year-old, who rounded off last season with a dominant victory in the Listed novice handicap at the Cheltenham Festival, which has now been axed from the schedule and moved to Sandown.

"God, he was awesome," said Bass. "He jumped brilliantly and is just class. When I gave him a bit of light down the side, he just came alive.
