The exploits of trainer Ellmarie Holden in her first year and of rider Rachael Blackmore since her decision to turn professional last summer have been talking points this season – and even more so now after combining for their biggest career successes when Abolitionist landed the €100,000 Ladbrokes-sponsored Leinster National.

It was the richest handicap ever run at the track, the first Grade A handicap run there, and the competitive and high-class renewal it encouraged surely means it is here to stay.

Abolitionist, not seen since finishing second in the Troytown at Navan in November, took it up well before the second-last and was there to be shot at, but Blackmore got every last ounce from him as he held off the persistent challenge of Folsom Blue by a length and three-quarters.
