There is nothing like taking out insurance against unexpected eventualities, especially in racing.

Nick Gifford got cover at the first opportunity with The Mighty Don before a planned season over fences with qualification for the Pertemps Final in March, reeling in front-running Sykes in the last strides.

"We quietly fancied him for the Pertemps Final last season but then it never stopped raining and it kept on raining when we took him to Aintree so nothing went his way last season," said the Findon trainer, whose plan A is to make the six-year-old a staying chaser this season.
