Gewan should be Guineas favourite after Dewhurst, but the picture could soon change with this Ballydoyle colt

Charlie Appleby knows a thing or two about the 2,000 Guineas, and when interviewed on ITV shortly before the Darley Dewhurst Stakes he confidently predicted that whatever won would be the winter favourite for the opening Classic of 2026. 

So the first question to ask of Gewan is, why is he not just that, having put away a highly regarded bunch of rivals in what is traditionally the deepest trial? 

There was no mistaking the way he shifted into a higher gear just before running into the Dip, his acceleration killing off the race before James Doyle just let him use the space behind to drift down to the comfort of the running rail.
