Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore landed their third Ribblesdale Stakes in a row as Garden Of Eden powered home off a strong gallop set by stablemate Island Hopping to strike at odds of 7-1.

As soon as the gates opened Dylan Browne McMonagle shot clear on Island Hopping and built up a big lead, while Moore settled his mount in third. The leader began to falter as they straightened for home, with 2-1 favourite Catalina Delcarpio hitting the front, but Garden Of Eden powered past her a furlong and a half from home and lengthened to score by a decisive three and a quarter lengths

The John and Thady Gosden-trained Understudy came through for second, with Catalina Delcarpio was half a length away in third. It was O'Brien's sixth winner in the last 12 runnings of the race and followed in the footsteps of Port Fairy and Warm Heart.

The trainer said: “I was impressed with that. Garden Of Eden is getting better. We always thought stepping up in trip would help her. We stepped her up to a mile and a quarter the last day and she improved a lot.

“She's by Saxon Warrior, and when they go up in distance they do get better. The Irish Oaks would be a possibility but she could also go to America for a Grade 1 over there – we'll have to see.”

More became the tenth winningmost Flat jockey of all time in Britain with the success, his total of 2,594 victories one more than Edward Hide.

The jockey said: “Garden Of Eden was very impressive. She has been gradually improving. Aidan kept saying every time she steps up, she will get better.

“We went a hard pace and got a bit detached. She kind of dropped the bridle and ran in snatches. Billy [Lee on the favourite] sneaked down the inside, but when I asked her to quicken she did it very well. It was just typical Aidan – he keeps making them better."
