Fry's good form continues as Victory proves a willing partner for Murtagh
Tuesday: Plumpton
Harry Fry continued his fantastic run of form and record at Plumpton when Will Victory held on for a game success in the 2m4½f mares' handicap hurdle.
The six-year-old was in command in the home straight before drifting in the final furlong, but held on to win by two lengths under Lorcan Murtagh.
Her win took Fry's record at the track to a red-hot 44 per cent, as well as operating at a 26 per cent strike-rate this month.
"We went hard there – the plan was actually to make the running but I was in top gear from the minute we jumped off," Murtagh told Sky Sports Racing.
"We got into a lovely rhythm and I filled her up as much as I could. I committed a long way from home, but you have to round here."
Murtagh used the race as extra practice for his backhand whip position in preparation for the BHA's new rules bedding in next month, which drew criticism from senior jump jockeys and could still see changes made to them.
"I prefer using it in my backhand anyway," he added. "We have to get out of the temptation of using it in my forehand, so I might as well start now and put in good groundwork for when it does come in."
Another winning Harry
The John Best and Karen Jewell-trained Uallrightharry ended a spell of over three years without a win when picking up his second course-and-distance success in the 3m1½f handicap chase.
