It could not have been further from a sun-kissed Longchamp, where Princess Yaiza landed a Group 2 last Saturday, but you sense the victories of A Place Apart and Moonball were just as sweet to Gavin Cromwell. It is places like Downpatrick that have got him to where he is – and he knows it.

It has been a wonderful week for the versatile and modest Meath trainer, who followed up his double at Cork on Wednesday with another one here, paying just over 18-1 for anyone who got involved with the layers.

A Place Apart got the ball rolling in the opening Molson Coors Maiden Hurdle, winning on his 22nd start under a strong drive from Ger Fox.
