Whoever coined that phrase might not have had the outcome of Saturday's £350,000 Al Shaqab Lockinge in mind as Ribchester powered home to give Richard Fahey his fifth Group 1 victory in front of a crowd of 12,109.

The trainer, based in Malton, North Yorkshire, has never hidden his admiration for the Iffraaj colt Godolphin bought from David Armstrong in 2015, labelling him the best he has conditioned.
