Sir Michael Stoute extended his impressive record at the course to five victories from six runners in the last five seasons after finding the perfect opportunity to get Fidaawy off the mark in the mile maiden.

The New Approach gelding, sporting the colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum and ridden by Danny Tudhope, was barely asked a question as he broke his maiden tag at the third attempt following an eyecatching run at Doncaster last month.

It was also a successful return to Carlisle for former jockey-turned-travelling head lad Mark Flynn, who rode his first winner at the course in 2000.
