Faugheen's heroics raise Limerick's roof as a new chapter takes shape
The Irish racing public's adoration for iconic horses has been well advertised in recent years by the receptions given to Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown, to Sprinter Sacre at Punchestown and to Faugheen when he won at Punchestown in 2018.
Those were matched by the patrons at Limerick as the proverbial roof was lifted off Greenmount by Faugheen's fabulous performance in the Matchbook Novice Chase, probably the greatest race ever run either at this venue or at it's old Greenpark location.
Patrick Mullins could not stop smiling afterwards, and it was clear the reception the 2015 Champion Hurdle hero received meant a great deal. It was a roar that started when he and Samcro turned in neck and neck, gradually intensified and followed Faugheen to the winner's enclosure.
