'It's pretty special to do it' - David Probert rides 1,439-1 four-timer
David Probert enjoyed the second four-timer of his career at Wolverhampton on Friday evening as he closes in on a century of winners for the year.
Probert took his tally to 94 winners and an accumulator on his four successful mounts returned odds of 1,439-1.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Thapa Vc initiated the four-timer with a half-length win in the 7f nursery, swiftly followed by victory in the feature 5f handicap on the David Barron-trained Venturous by a length and a quarter.
Autumn War, trained by Ian Williams, prevailed by a neck for Probert in the 1m6f handicap, then in the final contest on the eight-race card, the Paul and Oliver Cole-trained Celtic Classic scored by a length and three quarters under the in-form rider in the 1m6f handicap.
Probert's four-timer
6.15 Thapa Vc 7-1
6.45 Venturous 9-1
7.45 Autumn War 2-1f
8.15 Celtic Classic 5-1
Probert said on Sky Sports Racing: "It's my second four-timer as I rode one at Brighton a few years ago, but it's pretty special to do it.
"My aim has always been to get to 100 winners for the year and there's still a few fixtures left to try and do it. If I get on the right horses hopefully I might get there."
Probert enjoyed a Group 3 success on Berlin Tango in the Unibet Classic Trial at Kempton on the third day of racing's resumption in June, while he landed the Listed Coral-sponsored Rockingham Stakes at York aboard Nastase.
He rode a treble at Lingfield last Sunday and heads back to the Surrey track on Saturday for six mounts, including Bangkok in the Listed Betway Quebec Stakes, before three rides at Southwell the following day as he chases the century for the year.
