Squire Osbaldeston and Leicester's own Daniel Lambert, two celebrated sporting figures of the past, had races named after them on the all-chase card and trainer Andrew Martin won both of them to register his first double under rules.

Given the corinthian spirit shown by Osbaldeston, who once rode 200 miles in under nine hours using 28 different horses, it was fitting his race was won by an amateur team, with Martin's son James doing the steering aboard Sunny Ledgend.

Martin snr hinted of making the operation more professional. He said: "I just need my business part of my studies at the British Racing School in Newmarket and I'll apply to go professional with about 15-20 horses. We'll have no problem with shoeing our horses as I was a farrier and James has just qualified."
