'He's a really nice prospect' - Fallon strikes with smart 2,000 Guineas hope
Tuesday: Yarmouth
Group 1 performer Light Infantry won the 6f novice stakes a year ago and the latest renewal could have produced a similar type in Zoology.
Cieren Fallon had the confidence to send James Ferguson's newcomer to the front despite the 3-1 shot's lack of experience and they did not see too many of their 13 rivals in scoring by four lengths.
The winner is held in such regard that he has an entry in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday week but that may come too soon for the Qatar Racing-owned colt.
Zoology was given an opening quote of 50-1 by Paddy Power for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas and he may well progress further when upped in trip.
Qatar Racing representative Kevin Darley said: "Zoology is a big raw individual who is still unfurnished and has won that on pure ability really.
"They obviously think he's going to be a horse for next year but to win like that over six was very pleasing and the further he went the better he went. He's a really nice prospect. People think these Zoustars are all about speed but many of them need seven or a mile."
Fallon said: "He's a nice prospect and will make a lovely three-year-old. I didn't want to make the running but he jumped so well."
Howarth on target
Former footballer Christian Howarth scored for the 15th time this season when springing a 40-1 shock on Dance Havana in a new 1m1f two-year-old maiden stakes.
Newmarket trainer Alice Haynes was not afraid to take on the colts with her daughter of Havana Gold, who appreciated the step up from a 7f maiden at Lingfield.
Howarth, who claims 5lb, is attached to Haynes's neighbour Henry Spiller. Haynes said: "Christian comes in and rides work when I need him and he works hard so he deserved that."
Lucky track
James Clutterbuck has found Yarmouth a happy hunting ground since joining forces with Peter Charalambous and he celebrated his second winner at the venue when Chanson D'Amour got up to land the opening 5f handicap.
The Exning-based trainer enjoyed his first winner at the track with Alpha King in the summer and was registering his third when Martin Harley got his filly home from Amasova.
Clutterbuck said: "This filly had been waiting for the soft ground and we fancied her today. We bought four yearlings recently so have 17 in at the moment."
Two-minute silence
There was a two-minute silence for the Queen 20 minutes before the first race on day one of the Eastern festival with around 15 jockeys and many trainers taking part as well as the large crowd. The signal to start was the chime for a stewards' inquiry and it concluded with God Save The King.
