Fahey in the good books after Mr Diamond strikes in grassroots final

It was happy families in the final of the £25,000 Grassroots Nursery Series Final, with Mr Diamond winning for trainer Richard Fahey in the colours of his partner Amie Canham.

Neither were present to collect the trophy but with a first prize of £16,000 heading back to Musley Bank stables, there will be good cause for celebration.

The short-head winner had to survive a stewards’ inquiry having appeared to take the runner-up, Pirate, left as he drifted across the track in the closing stages, but after a long look by the stewards, the result was allowed to stand.
