Explosive High Definition lays down Classic marker on a fine day for Ballydoyle

High Definition was made 12-1 favourite (from 25) with Paddy Power for next year's Derby after a remarkable success in the Group 2 Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford Stakes.

The son of Galileo, also 14-1 (from 20) for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with the same firm, was giving trainer Aidan O'Brien his 20th winner of the race and his tenth in a row, but you would not have given much for the winner's chances turning in.

Seamie Heffernan had the entire field in front of him and was hard at work, and while his mount did make up ground in the straight he was still a half-dozen lengths off the lead a furlong out.
