Should Nell Gwyn winner Zanzoun be supplemented for the 1,000 Guineas? Our experts have their say
Our panel assess the fillies' Classic trial at Newmarket on Tuesday

Zanzoun impressed when winning the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on Tuesday. However, she is not entered in the Betfred 1,000 Guineas next month, although she does have entries in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Prix de Diane. Our experts have their say on whether she should be supplemented for the 1,000 Guineas or not...
Potentially much to be gained from rolling the dice
By Scott Burton, France correspondent
There was lots to like about the way Zanzoun quickened up and ran gun-barrel straight on a Rowley Mile that throws plenty of inexperienced horses off their stride.
The daughter of Dubawi holds an entry in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp seven days after the Guineas if connections want to give her a bit more time, but Juddmonte already have a key trial winner for that race in the shape of Prix Imprudence scorer Better Together.
Given Zanzoun's balletic performance running into and out of the Dip, there is potentially much to be gained from rolling the dice and supplementing her for the Guineas.
Juddmonte look to have a better candidate than her
By Jack Haynes, reporter
The ground appears to be an important consideration for Zanzoun, so the Pouliches would be a likelier target.
The going description for the 1,000 Guineas has been good or good to firm in nine of the last ten years, whereas the French equivalent has been staged on ground softer than good on eight occasions in the same period.
Despite showing her ability to handle the track, an end-to-end gallop in the Guineas against stronger opposition would be an altogether different test. Juddmonte also have a potential leading candidate in Red Letter, who was unlucky not to finish closer to Lake Victoria in the Moyglare last year.
Lopsided betting market makes supplementing appealing
By Peter Scargill, deputy industry editor
Perhaps the only consideration Juddmonte have to make when thinking about whether to add Zanzoun to the Betfred 1,000 Guineas is if two is better than one?
On the face of it, Red Letter has stronger credentials than Zanzoun, and the reports from the owners and from trainer Ger Lyons have been positive this spring.
On the other hand, a second runner sporting the Juddmonte silks naturally increases their chances of success, and the 1,000 Guineas market has a lopsided look to it, with the betting being 16-1 bar the top three.
A finish in the top four would nearly earn back the £30,000 supplementary fee, while anything better than that is a huge positive. Why not take the punt?
