So that's what £400,000 gets you these days. Envoi Allen wasn't cheap but looks less expensive with every racecourse visit and he followed in the footsteps of Samcro, Death Duty and Don Cossack by taking the Listed "Future Champions" Flat Race in emphatic fashion.

The fact Envoi Allen was 4-11 favourite for a bumper against four previous winners told you all you needed to know and he duly obliged in the manner most expected under Jamie Codd.

Don't back him for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, though, as Gordon Elliott was keen to stress he wouldn't be going there.
