Enable looks a live Oaks player after taking display

You have to go back to 2007 to find the last filly who landed the Oaks after winning the Cheshire equivalent – the Sir Henry Cecil-trained Light Shift – but John Gosden looks to have a live chance of ending that ten-year drought with Enable.

The strong-travelling daughter of Nathaniel was well positioned in second by Frankie Dettori after a slightly tardy break, which can be excused as it was only her third start, and the rider's tactical prowess was on show as he dictated the pace of the race in behind the non-staying pacesetter Erica Bing.

Showing an eyecatching turn of foot when kicking for home two and a half furlongs out, Enable handled the sweeping left-hand home turn with ease and always looked like holding the well-backed Aidan O'Brien favourite Alluringly, with the front two pulling nine lengths clear.
