Enable lights up Chantilly with an Arc victory worthy of any stage
This was likely to have been the last Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe ever staged at Chantilly but Enable ensured the race's brief sojourn at the spiritual home of French racing will forever be remembered as the scene of a breathtaking victory by a filly who with one thunderous burst of acceleration wrote her name into racing's foremost ranks.
Chantilly's spell as the home of the Arc was already notable on a number of levels. It had introduced the loyal legion of British and Irish racegoers who treat Arc weekend as an annual pilgrimage to a jewel in the crown of European racing, a boutique track that emerges from amid thick forest like some sacred grove, France's temple to the horse.
And last year, in the first Arc to be held at Chantilly, Aidan O'Brien delivered one of those epic racing feats that defy belief but which seemingly flow effortlessly from his hands, as his great female warrior Found led home a 1-2-3 in the race, a display of pan-European dominance that would have done Charlemagne proud.
