Emphatic Enable earns place in top echelon of Arc winners

Frankie Dettori gives Enable an affectionate stroke after her Arc win

Enable ranks among the best Arc winners of recent years after scoring with total authority. A Racing Post Rating of 129 puts the three-year-old level with the unbeaten 2008 winner Zarkava and 2lb behind the mighty Treve, who beat Orferve by five lengths to land her first Arc in 2013.

A figure of 129 also moves Enable up among the leading seven fillies and mares worldwide since 2000.

Khalid Abdullah's filly was always close to the pace at Chantilly, travelled strongly into the lead with two furlongs to go and by the furlong pole she was three lengths clear.

A combination of idling and easing inside the final furlong meant the winning margin of two and a half lengths over Cloth Of Stars (126) slightly underplays her superiority.

The form looks as solid as ever for Europe's premier race, as the next six horses behind Enable were all Group 1 winners.

Andre Fabre hasn't won the Arc since 2006 but he's had plenty of horses hit the frame in the last decade by posting RPRs in the mid-120s and Cloth Of Stars followed the same path with 126.

Ulysses (124) tried to follow the winner up the straight but couldn't match her speed and finished third.

Order Of St George raced close to the pace and kept on to take fourth, matching the RPR of 122 he achieved when third in the race last year.

Battaash eclipses Angel as Europe's best sprinter

Battaash leapfrogged Harry Angel to become the leading sprinter in Europe after blitzing the field to land the Prix de l'Abbaye by four lengths.

The three-year-old relished the soft ground and always travelled strongly at the head of affairs before powering clear in the final furlong to beat Nunthorpe winner Marsha (122) by daylight.

These are clearly his conditions and Hamdan Al Maktoum’s star was similarly impressive when winning the King George Stakes on soft ground at Goodwood on his penultimate start.

Battaash had been beaten into fourth on good ground in the Nunthorpe on his previous start and there has to be a question over whether he can be quite this devastating on good ground – but on soft ground he's starting to look untouchable.

An RPR of 128 puts him 1lb ahead of Harry Angel in a stellar year for sprinting in Europe.
