It has been the sort of season to write home about for Stuart Edmunds and, after registering a 23rd success of the campaign with Earlshill in the 2m5f maiden hurdle, the Newport Pagnell trainer is looking to close the season with fireworks at Sandown on Saturday.

Winless in seven starts for Dan Skelton, Earlshill showed the benefit of a wind operation to open his account at the first attempt for his new trainer – who will now look to add to that haul during the summer months.

“He previously raced in a tongue tie so we didn’t take any chances and had his soft palate cauterised, which seems to have helped him finish his race off,” said Edmunds.
