Dunlop turns down Derulo as he hopes horses can hit high notes after cold spell
Tuesday: Bath
The Other Side by singer Jason Derulo might have been an appropriate song to listen to for Harry Dunlop, who is emerging from a lean spell and won the 5½f maiden with Polly Pott.
Ridden by David Probert, the daughter of Muhaarar justified 6-5 favouritism to give the yard, which had been without a winner since December, its second success of July after Adaay In Asia struck at Chepstow last week.
"The horses had been slow to come to hand," the Lambourn-based Dunlop explained after turning down the volume on Derulo and Heart radio.
"I'm really pleased they seem to be coming right and you've just got to keep going in these periods. I've been doing it long enough, so you don't question yourself, but need to be patient."
Dunlop's string numbers around 20 and he added: "I hope we can kick on now and I've got a nice two-year-old called Bingley Crocker to keep an eye on.
"He didn't run well last time, but had on his first start and I hope he's one to look forward to."
Kirby shines
Bath is often a happy hunting ground for Clive Cox, who saddled Watchya to win the 5½f handicap although that might not have been possible had Adam Kirby not been on board.
Short of room two out, Kirby never panicked and got home to win cosily by a neck, continuing a decent run for the Lambourn outfit, which had enjoyed Listed glory with Harry Three at Deauville on Sunday and was also on the mark on Monday at Windsor with the promising Eminency.
