Dream team strike as Jimmy Moffatt and Charlotte Jones boost Cartmel reputation
Saturday: Cartmel
Trainer Jimmy Moffatt and Charlotte Jones cemented their impressive partnership at Cartmel when Grand Soufle landed the 2m1f maiden hurdle.
Jones has 48 career victories, with all of them coming when she has teamed up with Moffatt. She recorded her best tally of 16 last year and remains on course to surpass that after landing her 11th winner of the campaign.
She said: "Last year was my best, but I’m hoping I can top that by gaining more experience and picking up rides during the winter.
"I can’t be more thankful to Jimmy and the owners because they’ve kept using me throughout the summer and it has been a massive boost for my career."
Jones, who has had 25 winners at Cartmel, believes Moffatt’s string of horses enjoy the short trip to the Cumbria track.
"How can they not enjoy it! The horses only have to travel five minutes home and the sun always shines, so that helps.
"He [Grand Soufle] ran really well and he’s a game little horse who stays well. He’s not the quickest, but I wanted to ride him more aggressively today and that’s what I did – the plan paid off," she added.
Mr Consistency
The consistent Hereditary Rule took advantage of a drop in trip to score gamely in the 2m5f novice chase for Ireland-based trainer John McConnell.
The seven-year-old gelding was last seen when finishing second to Imperial Sachin's at Uttoxeter last month, but returned to winning ways when pulling eight and a half lengths clear of Jelski for a third win from eight starts this season.
