Drama as race declared void after Indiana Bay collapses

Fontwell clerk of the course Ed Arkell said that safety had to come first after voiding the conditional jockeys’ handicap chase following the collapse of Indiana Bay.

All bets were refunded following a stewards’ inquiry after the six remaining runners pulled up when a yellow flag was waved with a circuit left of the three-mile-one-furlong race.

The David Dennis-trained Indiana Bay, ridden by Kieron Edgar, went down on the bend just after the stands. The flag was waved after the fence before the stands on the following circuit, with the runners all pulling up wide of the fatally injured horse.
