Downbeat Kirby and King make all to make it a double all round

When is a good ride not a good ride? Adam Kirby looked to all the world, connections included, like he had produced a brilliant ride from the front in the mile novice stakes to bring up a double for himself and Gary Moore in the first two races, but it turns out it was not.
Even to the trained eye of Moore it looked like Kirby had produced a cracker, bouncing out on King Of The Sand and stealing a march on his rivals, all while keeping enough up his sleeve to repel the inevitable late charge.
Given his winning margin of four and a half lengths it was easy to conclude he was deserving of a great deal of praise, but when it was put to Kirby that he'd produced a brilliant ride his surprising response was: "That one was the complete opposite."
