Michael Dods and Sean Kirrane secured a quickfire double courtesy of Taylormade Lad in the 1m3f handicap and Count Palatine in the 7f handicap.

Taylormade Lad gained a first success at the seventh attempt when prevailing by a neck and is open to more improvement over staying trips on turf.

Kirrane told Racing TV: "He's relatively inexperienced by all accounts. He's probably a tad better with some ease in the ground, so that combined with the prospects of maybe some headgear, or something like that, to keep his mind on the job could help him improve."

Count Palatine has recorded form figures of 221 when ridden by Kirrane after his victory by three-quarters of a length in the feature contest on the six-race card.

"There was a little bit of pace early on, although I didn't feel like we were going mad," said the winning jockey. "He really likes this quick ground."

Off the mark

March Ahead recorded her first victory at the third attempt when beating 8-11 favourite Gwen John by a neck in the 6f fillies' novice.

The 16-1 shot, trained by Kevin Ryan, was partnered by Shane Gray for the first time and repelled the odds-on shot in game fashion from the front.
