Dods advertises strong stable form ahead of Stewards' Cup with Bold Territories
Friday: Wolverhampton
Michael Dods advertised the strong form of his stable ahead of Commanche Falls' defence of the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood when Bold Territories justified 7-4 favouritism in the second division of the 7f handicap.
It was a first win in 12 starts for the four-year-old, who battled on determinedly to get the better of Pontius in the dying strides under Connor Beasley.
"He's had little issues, so it was nice to get the owners a win," said Dods. "The cheekpieces have helped him and it's just great to get his head in front."
Dods enjoyed Glorious Goodwood success with Prairie Falcon on Thursday and has a strong team for Saturday's Stewards' Cup, in last year's winner Commanche Falls and Tinto.
"Prairie Falcon is a horse with a bright future and a great mind on him, as you could see by the way he battled on. He'll stay a mile next year.
"My biggest concern with Commanche Falls is the ground as it's much different to last year; but they're both in good form and we should have plenty of pace in the draw.
"It's very competitive and anything could win, but hopefully they'll run well. Both have done little wrong this year and I'll be delighted with some good runs."
Smart debut
Haskoy continued the great record of Ralph Beckett's all-weather runners by making an impressive winning debut in the 1m4f novice.
He thundered home from off the pace under Hector Crouch to beat the Raul Da Silva-ridden Jahoori by seven lengths. Da Silva was having his first ride after a near two-year injury absence.
Appleby double
Mick Appleby, out of luck in Goodwood's King George Qatar Stakes with fast-finishing runner-up Raasel, had better fortune with a 259-1 double on the Wolverhampton card, winning both divisions of the 1m½f handicap with Dew You Believe and Bora Bora, ridden by Theodore Ladd.
