Derek O'Connor produces the goods on Ok Corral in dramatic Sky Bet Chase

On what has been an excellent afternoon for Nicky Henderson, Ok Corral returned to form when grinding it out to win the Sky Bet Handicap Chase under Derek O'Connor at Doncaster.

The ten-year-old, who was pulled up in runs at Newbury and Cheltenham earlier this term, was always travelling kindly under the ace amateur rider to land a sixth success under rules.

The pair had previously combined to win the Hampton Novices' Chase at Warwick last season, and they again gelled well together here.

O'Connor said: "I had a willing partner, he jumped and travelled exceptionally well. I think we might have banked the fourth-last, but other than that he was flawless.

"Nicky has done some job because his runs have been disappointing this season. I can't say why things were different, but possibly the nicer ground and the flat track suits a speedy horse. He loved that kind of speedy track – he could be an Aintree horse."

Rising star Millie Wonnacott finished half a length behind in second on the Neil Mulholland-trained Fingerontheswitch, while Chidswell was 14 lengths adrift in third.

Of the runner-up, Wonnacott said: "I was pleased with him, he just jumped his way to the front too soon. He can be a bit of a monkey sometimes when he's out on his own in front but he ran an absolute blinder."

Betfair cut Ok Corral to 14-1 (from 20-1) for the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
