One of the notable success stories in northern parts in the last few years has been the rise up the training ranks of former jockey Iain Jardine, who began with a handful of horses near Bonchester Bridge in the Scottish borders and now has a string of more than 70, having moved to Len Lungo's former yard at Carrutherstown near Dumfries.

Although Jardine didn't make the journey down to Lincolnshire, his only runner at the meeting was My Little Cracker, who landed what looked a competitive mares' handicap hurdle in fine style in the colours of Paul and Clare Rooney.

She was a 12th career success for up-and-coming conditional rider Ross Chapman, 20, who hails from Hexham and has been with Jardine for around a year.
