Stan Moore, who helped launch the career of Josephine Gordon, thinks Laura Coughlan could be the next star apprentice after the duo combined to win the first race of the season at Windsor with Even Rock in the 5f handicap.

It was a first visit to the quirky Thames-side track for the 7lb claimer but Coughlan made sure she gave the track a thorough going over on foot before racing, which paid dividends as she shunned the stands' side rail for the centre of the track to land the ninth win of her career at 20-1.

"I've never ridden here before so thought I'd have a look at the course and thought it was better ground in the middle," said Coughlan, based with David Loughnane in Shropshire.
