Contingent enters Classic reckoning with dominant debut success for Weld

At the end of a season in which Dermot Weld has not enjoyed the success usually associated with his Curragh yard, Contingent emerged as a possible Classic contender for 2018 when making an impressive debut in the mile fillies' maiden.

A daughter of Frankel, Contingent was drawn 18 of 18 and overcame her wide position to score in good style by one and three-quarter lengths.

Weld said of the Juddmonte homebred: "She's got a lot of talent and just could be very good. It was a tough ask for a filly first time out to win from such a high draw but she's done it very well and there is a lot to look forward to with her next year."
