Commentator Peters battles extreme elements to keep the show on the road

Tuesday: Huntingdon

Commentator Tim Peters deserved a medal after battling through the elements to call the feature 2m handicap hurdle won by Impulsive One.

The new commentary position at the Cambridgeshire track has no windows and the feature contest took place in the teeth of a storm, although Impulsive One made things easier in the horizontal rain by coming clear in the straight under Daryl Jacob.

Peters said: "The cameraman had it worse than me up there but at one point we thought all the rain would knock out the equipment. They've built a new commentary box but have not yet put the windows in which made it a challenge."

Impulsive One is trained by Nicky Henderson and owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, whose racing manager Anthony Bromley said: "Fair play to Huntingdon for putting on decent prize-money of over £26,000 for a midweek race."

They love a local winner at Huntingdon and there were four on the card, including three from Newmarket, which concluded when Flat-bred Kutaiba landed a gamble in the 1m5½f bumper.

Trainer Rae Guest was flanked by Flat royalty in the shape of his sister Lady Cecil to welcome back the daughter of Golden Horn, who was punted into 9-4 joint-favourite at the off from 7-1 in the morning.

Guest said after the four-and-a-quarter-length triumph: "That's our first ever winner here and we had thought about running on the Flat, but this looked a nice opportunity. Hopefully we can find a Listed race for her after that."

Fellow HQ runner Poker Master left part-owner Ian Pattle in tears after winning the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.

The 6-1 chance is the first winner Pattle has ever owned and has now won four races for the Bury St Edmunds-based enthusiast this year.

He said of the Charlie McBride-trained winner: "I've waited 13 years to have a winner and I've now had six this year including this fellow so I'm entitled to cry. I think the plan is to take him chasing after this."

East End Girl kicked off the Newmarket spree when justifying strong support in the opening 2m mares' novice hurdle.

Trainer Lucy Wadham said: "She first ran at Fakenham which is a difficult track for a novice and she found the hurdles coming on her a bit quick that day. She enjoyed this more galloping track."

It was no surprise Paul O'Brien enjoyed an armchair ride on William Cody to win the 2m4f novice handicap chase as the winner is owned by furniture supplier Martyn Davis.

Bred and trained by local handler Pam Sly, the 2-1 chance kept tabs on favourite and front-runner Thundersockssundae in the early exchanges but always looked dangerous turning for home and eventually bounded clear to score by eight lengths.

Winning owner Davis said: "William Cody is a first winner in my own colours and it's a real bonus as coming here I thought we'd finish second to the favourite."
