Taquin Du Seuil, somewhat lost in the wilderness since his JLT Novices' Chase win at the 2014 festival, roared back to life when taking yesterday’s BetVictor Gold Cup and the victory also brought that great Cheltenham specialist Jonjo O’Neill back in from the cold after 23 winnerless days.

In truth Taquin Du Seuil’s backers won’t have been counting their money mid-race as he never seemed to be in the right place and even Jonjo admitted: “Going down to the water I thought ‘Jeez, Aidan you need to be a bit handier'.”

Coleman was in agreement afterwards and observed: “The first three-quarters of a mile were fine and the last three-quarters were good too. But the middle part was always about mounting a salvage operation.
